A Minnesota woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $300,000 while working as a supervisor at Fortune Bay Resort Casino on Lake Vermillion.

Jennifer Lynn Boutto of Orr pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and theft of Tribal funds on Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

Boutto began working as a reservationist at Fortune Bay Resort Casino, which is operated by the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, in 2008. She was later promoted to front desk supervisor, which allowed her to issue cash refunds without supervision.

Between January 2013 and October 2019, Boutto would issue false cash refunds against previous customers’ invoices in order to access the casino’s vault and retrieve the funds, according to the guilty plea.

Boutto used this scheme 2,994 times and stole a total of $315,739.87.

Boutto’s sentencing date will be scheduled at a later time. The FBI and Bois Forte Band of Chippewa investigated the case.
