4-year-old boy suffers internal injuries in skid-steer accident

The incident happened Saturday afternoon.

A 4-year-old boy underwent surgery after suffering injuries in a freak accident involving a skid-steer.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office says the incident was reported in the 17200 block of Hwy. 371 in First Assessment Township, northwest of Brainerd, at 2:47 p.m. Saturday.

The boy was sitting on the lap of the adult operating a skid-steer. He was then injured "in the arm mechanism of the tractor when he leaned forward in the cab," per the sheriff's office.

The boy was airlifted from Essentia Health to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had surgery to "repair internal injuries."

An update on his condition has not been provided.
