Business executive and GOP Senate candidate Mike McFadden raised more than $700,000 in donations since he announced his run against Democratic Sen. Al Franken about a month ago.

The Associated Press reports the first-time candidate and his wife donated $10,000 to the fund.

The announcement was made on YouTube Tuesday, according to the Star Tribune.

McFadden, 48, is one of just two Republicans in the Senate race so far. Eight-term state Rep. Jim Abeler is also seeking to unseat Franken. MinnPost says state Sen. Julianne Ortman is considering a run as well.

Polls indicate Franken is in good shape for reelection, with the most recent showing 51 percent approve of the job he's doing.

The first-term senator raised nearly $2 million and had more than $2 million on hand in the first 3 months of 2013. Politics in Minnesota reports an associated political action committee called Franken MVPs provides Franken with an additional $300,000 on hand.

Franken has until mid-month to detail his fundraising for April through June.
