The campaign for U.S. Sen. Al Franken announced in a video Thursday that he's already raised more than $1.98 million in the first three months of 2013 and has about $2 million on hand.

About 35,000 people donated in the first three months of 2013, more than half made contributions of under $100. Franken's campaign says they received donations from every county in the state.

MinnPost reports the first quarter figure does not include last weekend's fundraiser hosted by comedian and late night talk show host Conan O'Brien in Los Angeles.

Franken is still unopposed. His potential Republican challengers include U.S. Reps. John Kline and Erik Paulsen of Minnesota, Minnesota investment banker Mike McFadden and talk radio host Jason Lewis, according to the Star Tribune.

Candidates have until April 15 to file their fundraising numbers with the Federal Election Commission. MPR reports Franken's first-quarter total puts him toward the front of the Senate fundraising pack.

On the GOP side of the Senate, the Washington Post reports Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) leads the way with $1.8 million raised and $8.6 million in cash on hand.
