Dairy Queen is celebrating its 75th anniversary by giving away free vanilla ice cream cones.

Free cone day is Monday, March 16 – the 75th day of the year. Anyone who stops by one of Dairy Queen's participating locations will get one free small vanilla cone, a news release says.

The restaurant chain will also be accepting donations for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. DQ has raised more than $100 million for the nonprofit in the past 30 years, the news release says.

The Minneapolis-based chain got its start in 1938 in Illinois. Free cone day is one of several events Dairy Queen has planned to celebrate its anniversary, reports note.

Mark your calendar for another chance to get free ice cream – Ben and Jerry's free cone day is about a month away, on April 14, Time Magazine says.

There are at least five scoop shops in the Twin Cities.
