Freezing drizzle is making some roads slippery for the commute

Winter is making its way back.

Overnight freezing drizzle has made for slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks for the Thursday morning commute.

A light coating of ice is possible on untreated surfaces in east central and south central Minnesota, KSTP reports, especially on side roads, ramps and bridges, reports note.

For the most part, road conditions on the highways are normal around the metro, the Minnesota Department of Transportation's website shows, while main roads in northwestern Minnesota are listed as partially covered with ice.

Slippery conditions have led some schools in the Northland to delay their start time. Read more on the Duluth News Tribune's website.

Cold and wind coming

Colder air coming out of Canada will cause the temperature to drop from the mid-30s to the upper 20s by the afternoon, with the windchill near 10 degrees, KSTP notes.

Wind gusts could reach 30 mph at times.

Light snow is possible this weekend, but nothing significant is expected, the National Weather Service says. Cold air makes its way in this weekend, ushering in below normal temperatures for the start of February.
