A packing company is recalling whole peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots over contamination concerns – affecting at least four of the nation's popular grocers.

Wawona Packing Co. says it's voluntarily issuing a nationwide recall of some stone fruits packed between June 1 and July 12, because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes – a "serious infection" that can be fatal to newborns, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.

The company says no illnesses connected to the fruit have been reported. Anyone with one of the suspect products is urged to throw them away.

Some of the country's go-to grocers posted notices regarding the recall.

Wal-Mart Co. – which owns Sam's Club – says on its website both store chains sold the recalled product. Costco also lists the recall notice on its site.

Trader Joe's offers more info about the affected fruit it sold. Four-pound boxes of peaches and nectarines sold between June 2 and July 19 are listed. As are the following fruits sold individually from June 2 through July 18:

  • Organic White Nectarine
  • Organic Yellow Nectarine
  • White Nectarine
  • Yellow Nectarine
  • Organic Yellow Peach
  • White Peach
  • Yellow Peach
  • Organic Dapple Dandy Plumcot
  • Plum

All potentially affected products have been removed and destroyed, Trader Joe's says. Anyone with one of the above items can dispose of them, or return them to any Trader Joe's for a refund. Aldi, which shares an owner with Trader Joe's, also issued its own voluntary recall, explaining it removed the items from all stores' selling floor immediately.

Wawona provides a long list of ID numbers that can be used to identify the affected fruit. Photos of the products are also available.
