A fundraiser has been created for a 24-year-old St. Cloud State graduate who drowned in Big Lake after falling off of a tube.

Ashutosh Dahal died on Saturday when he was witnessed falling from the tube and going underwater at around 7:45 p.m. Several people looked for Dahal but were unable to find him. The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office dive team eventually found his body at around 9:30 p.m.

Dahal was originally from Nepal, where his family still lives. The Association of Nepalis in Minnesota and the Nepalese Student Association of St. Cloud have launched a fundraiser to cover the cost of his last rites.

Dahal will be cremated and sent back to Nepal, in accordance with current international travel restrictions and his family’s wishes.

"We have always taken pride in working together and helping each other during difficult times. We are reaching out to the community for help in raising enough money for the last rites," a Facebook post from the Association of Nepalis in Minnesota read.

“PLEASE consider donating if you can, as any amount will truly help. It would mean a lot if you could share Ashutosh's last rites fund-raiser with others in your network or to those who knew him,” the post continues.
