A tornado that ripped across the countryside of west-central Minnesota on July 8 damaged and destroyed property and left one person dead in the Dalton area of Otter Tail County.

Now a storm chaser from Minnesota, Jake Heitman, is doing what he can after learning more about the person who died in the storm. Heitman has launched a GoFundMe to help the families who were impacted by the tornado, saying he met the neighbor of one man, identified as Travis, whose property was destroyed.

Worse, a young man whom Travis employed died during the tornado. The victim has not yet been identified by authorities.

Travis is described in in the fundraiser as "self-made farmer who was looking for a better opportunity for his family." Heitman wrote that Travis had just recently starting a new venture as a trucker, and he hired a friend, the young man who died, as an employee to work in his shop.

This man was working in the shop when the tornado hit, Heitman said.

"Due to the current times, with COVID-19 and a tough economy, especially for small businesses, I wanted to start this GoFundMe for Travis' family and the family of the young man who lost his life," said Heitman.

All of the money raised will go to Travis and the family of the young man who died in the tornado.

Two others were injured and taken to a hospital, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office. Their conditions haven't been reported.
