Gas tank truck catches fire near France Ave. in Bloomington
A potential disaster was averted in Bloomington when firefighters managed to contain flames that had broken out in the rear of a gas tanker Saturday morning.
The Bloomington Fire Department says the truck's "rear wheel brake/drum" caught fire near I-494 and France Ave:
Luckily, the flames did not reach the tank, and no gas leaked, the fire department says.
Officials are crediting the truck's driver with helping prevent a dire situation, saying he "did a nice job keeping the fire down with several extinguishers until" firefighters could arrive and take over.
They also say things "could have been much worse" without his quick thinking. It's not clear why the rear brake drum caught fire.
No injuries were reported.
