A fire at Gertens in Inver Grove Heights that was seen on traffic cameras Sunday evening did not cause major damage.
The fire was reported at 6:38 p.m. according to Inver Grove Heights Fire Department, which was one of numerous fire departments to respond to the popular garden center located at 5500 Blaine Avenue, just south of Interstate 494.
The fire was contained to a greenhouse on the business property, with the fire department reporting that some equipment and plants were destroyed.
Inver Grove Heights Fire Department is investigating the cause of the blaze, though Gertens posted to Facebook saying "one of our growing greenhouses caught fire accidentally near our main store location in Inver Grove Heights."
Thankfully, no one was hurt and while we are still assessing damage, it appears the fire was contained quickly and that we have avoided any major damages to nearby structures," Gertens' post on Facebook says.
Gertens is open for business per usual on Monday.
"While this isn’t quite the way we thought we would begin our 100th year in business, we are thankful to have such great customers and a wonderful community to serve, even during times like these," Gertens said.
Assisting fire agencies included the South Metro, Mendota Heights and Rosemount fire departments, in addition to the city's police department, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office and MHealth Fairview Ambulance Service.
There were no injuries.
