Girl, 12, in a coma following ATV crash in southern Minnesota

The 12-year-old girl suffered a head injury.

A girl who was involved in an ATV crash Friday evening is in a coma after suffering a serious head injury, according to a Go Fund Me page dedicated to raising funds for medical bills.

The 12-year-old, identified by the page as Maddie, was airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester following the crash on Aug. 21.

"The doctors and nurses are trying everything they can. All we can do is pray, pray, pray," the page says.

According to ABC 6 in Rochester, the girl was driving a four-wheeler with two other girls, ages 8 and 13, when she crashed and rolled in a ditch on 120 Street, west of Highway 69, north of Emmons in Freeborn County.

After the crash, the two passengers got help from a neighbor after failing to wake Maddie up. When officials arrived, a neighbor was performing CPR, ABC 6 says.

The crash is still under investigation.

The online fundraiser has so far raised more than $4,000 of a $25,000 goal.

As of Aug. 17, there have been 16 fatal ATV crashes in Minnesota this year, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says. In all of 2019, there were 11 ATV fatalities in the state.
