A 9-year-old girl is in a serious condition after she was thrown from an ATV in central Minnesota.

The girl, identified as Eve Shaw of Freeport, was a passenger on a 2007 Polaris Ranger being driven on a driveway in Freeport by an 11-year-old girl from Melrose.

The driver "attempted to maneuver a curve and lost control of the ATV," the Stearns County Sheriff's Office said, crashing at 10:19 a.m. on Saturday.

Shaw was not wearing a seat belt, and was thrown from the ATV, landing on the ground.

The ATV then rolled and landed on the driver's side. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office said speed was likely a factor in the crash.
