A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured in a freak accident while tubing on a lake over the weekend.

According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened around 4:50 p.m. Saturday on Marion Lake when a boat was pulling two tubes with separate ropes. One of the ropes snapped, then recoiled and wrapped around the 14-year-old's neck.

The girl was airlifted to a hospital, and as of Monday's release from the sheriff's office, she remains in the hospital where her condition is unknown.

The girl's identity hasn't been released, but the sheriff's office notes that she is not from Otter Tail County.

Marion Lake is located northwest of Richville, or about 30 miles southeast of Detroit Lakes in west-central Minnesota.

Perham Ambulance and Otter Tail County Water Patrol also assisted at the scene.
