Glensheen: The musical about a true MN murder mystery returns

In 1977, an heiress and her nurse were found dead in the mansion.

A murder-mystery musical about a tragedy in a Minnesota mansion will return to St. Paul this summer.

It's called Glensheen, and the show is inspired by actual events that happened at the Duluth mansion 40 years ago.

The musical takes its audience back to 1977, when an heiress – Elisabeth Mannering Congdon – and her nurse were found dead in the home.

The nurse was beaten to death with a candlestick, and the heiress was smothered with pillow.

Whodunit? That's the tale the "dark musical" tackles. It's not all so heavy, though. Reviews from 2015 – when the show initially premiered – say you can expect plenty of laughs.

It was also a pretty big hit in 2015, with the Pioneer Press describing the show as a "sold-out smash."

The musical will be at St. Paul's History Theatre July 6-30. Tickets go on sale Jan. 19. You can get yours here.

And if you want some history, you can read more about how the actual murders occurred here and here.
