A woman who tried to be a Good Samaritan by stopping to help a motorist along Interstate 35 Tuesday night was instead attacked by him, and authorities are asking for the public's help to find the assailant.

The woman was driving north on Interstate 35 near Esko between about 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tuesday night when she saw a vehicle parked on the shoulder. She pulled over to see if the driver needed any assistance, according to a statement from the Carlton County Sheriff's office.

Instead, the man physically and sexually assaulted her and then drove away, the sheriff said.

The assailant is described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s. He had a medium build, short beard and short brown hair. He was wearing a black Carhartt hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black work boots, according to the sheriff.

The vehicle was described as a Ford F-150 extended cab pickup truck, possibly a 2003, with black matte paint and larger black matte color wheels along with low-profile tires. The sheriff's department released a photo of a truck that looks similar to the one involved (it's shown at the top of this post).

The sheriff asks anyone who was driving in the area Tuesday night and saw the truck in question to call 218-384-9520.
