Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all U.S. and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the state to respect the victims of the attack on Dallas police officers earlier this week.

That order coincides with the proclamation issued by President Obama on Friday.

Flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, July 12.

The last time Dayton ordered flags to be flown at half-staff was following the June 12 massacre in Orlando, Florida.

Deadliest day for US law enforcement since 9/11

Twelve officers were shot, five fatally, during demonstrations in Texas Thursday night.

It marked the deadliest day in U.S. law enforcement history since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, NBC News reports.

Demonstrators had gathered in the Dallas’ Belo Garden Park in response to two recent fatal shootings of young black men – Philando Castile in Minnesota, and Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge – when Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, fired on the crowd.

CNN lists the victims and briefly describes their lives, their impacts and the friends and family left behind. Some of the officers were fathers, military veterans and one was just married.
