The Governor's Mansion in St. Paul will be the location for another event commemorating the death of Philando Castile, but organizers say it will be a vigil as opposed to a rally or protest.

There have been tense scenes in recent weeks between activists protesting the St. Paul man's shooting by police and officers trying to re-open Summit Avenue after demonstrators closed it outside the mansion.

At 5 p.m. Monday, a "Stand for Justice" vigil will be held at the mansion, and organizers point out on the Facebook event page it will involve "a peaceful presence."

"Gather at the Governor's Residence as a peaceful presence in memory of Philando Castile and the other Minnesotans murdered by the police in the last year: Jamar Clark, Marcus Golden, Michael Kirvelay, Map Kong, Phil Quinn....and 15 more," it says.

"Bring a sign if you can. Bring flowers if you like. But most importantly, bring yourself. This will be is a vigil — not a rally or march."

The event is being organized by Merriam Park Neighbors for Peace, a group set up in 2003 to peacefully protest the Iraq War and according to its Facebook page, pursues "peaceful, non-violent solutions to conflict, promoting social justice and tolerance, conserving natural resources and the environment, and protecting human rights and civil liberties worldwide."

On Friday there was another round of Castile protests, which started at the J.J. Hill Montessori school where Castile worked and marched through the Summit University neighborhood, the Pioneer Press reports.

The newspaper said demonstrators at one point staged a sit-in on Selby Avenue, which later led to arrests.
