Three teens arrested in connection with the death of 79-year-old Lila Warwick now face second-degree murder charges.

WCCO reports 19-year-old Brok Junkermeier allegedly stabbed and strangled the Willmar grandmother before throwing her in the basement, where she was found dead by authorities Monday.

Someone from Redeemer Lutheran Church, where Warwick was a volunteer, called police to check on the woman after Warwick didn't show up to take her 14-year-old granddaughter to vacation Bible school.

According to court documents, Junkermeier broke into Warwick's home Monday morning after Warwick's grandson, a 17-year-old suspect arrested Thursday, said his grandmother had a safe containing $40,000 in her home.

While a 16-year-old boy waited in the car, Junkermeier allegedly cut her with a sword-like knife before forcing her to lookup her financial records online, WCCO reported. Investigators said the 19-year-old then made Warwick write out a $1,500 check.

Junkermeier allegedly repeatedly stabbed Warwick, strangled her and left her for dead.

The Star Tribune reports after the murder, Junkermeier and the 16-year-old went to McDonald's, ate and then went home. Junkermeier later deposited the check into his bank account.

A search warrant executed at Junkermeier’s home found evidence of Warwick's financial and personal records, bloody gym shoes, a safe and 30 $1,000 savings bonds in Warwick's name stashed in a nightstand.

The Star Tribune said Junkermeier and the grandson returned to Warwick's home Monday afternoon and stole the safe.

The 19-year-old was arrested Wednesday night in the mailroom of the West Central Tribune where he worked.

Warwick's daughter, Cheri Ekbom, told investigators that the grandson had been abusing drugs, indicated he hated his grandmother and texted a cousin months ago asking how much money he would get if she were to die, the Star Tribune reported.

The West Central Tribune reports Warwick's grandson and the 16-year-old have also been charged with second-degree murder.
