The silver set who actually have accumulated some silver will find Minneapolis suits them as a place to retire. Reitrees on a tight fixed income...not so much.

Twin Cities Business reports that's the conclusion drawn in a recent list from CNNMoney.com.

The website put together two lists for retirees to review. The “10 Best Places to Retire” featured mostly communities in the south and west. The “Eight Best Places to Retire with a Nice Nest Egg” list, which includes Minneapolis, reviews urban areas with a higher cost-of-living.The lists are based on 2012 census data and home price information collected from the online real estate website Trulia.com.

Minneapolis ranked on the list for seniors with savings. To compare urban areas, the website used a formula that calculated expenses including groceries, transportation, and utilities. It also looked at the percent of the population over 50, median home prices and the cost of living.

Some of the Minneapolis amenities that CNNMoney.com identified as appealing to retirees include the city's museums, professional sports, bike-friendly environment and an airport that offers many direct routes to the grandkids will appeal to retirees.

The city's famous brisk winters was regarded as a deterrent for some.
