Grounded: Hot air balloons inflated, but couldn't lift off at annual festival

Mother nature grounded the Hudson Hot Air Affair this weekend, but hundreds still turned out for the annual hot air balloon festival.

Nearly 40 balloons were expected at the western Wisconsin festival, which is now in its 26th year, the Journal Sentinel reports, but "adverse weather conditions" kept the balloons on the ground, according to the event's website.

Even though the balloons couldn't take flight, about 10 of them were inflated to give the large crowd an up-close look, the Hudson Star-Observer notes. Warmer temperatures contributed to the larger-than-normal crowds, the newspaper says.
