After a two-year absence, a group is taking initial steps to bring the Taste of Minnesota festival back to St. Paul.

The food-and-music event was beloved part of the summer calendar for many fest revelers, but after nearly 30 years it fell into bankruptcy after the 2010 event, more than $1.6 million in debt.

Now a group led by Linda Maddox, widow of Taste of Minnesota founder Ron Maddox, has applied to host the event on the grounds of the State Capitol in July, and the application is stamped "tentative," MPR reports.

Organizers don't yet have the money they need to launch an event comeback, but they wanted to reserve the space, MPR reports.

The festival was held for years on the Capitol grounds until it moved to Harriet Island in 2003.
