A St. Paul man is gaining support in his push for Sunday liquor store sales in Minnesota, Fox 9 reports.

Andrew Schmitt has formed the group Minnesota Beer Activists and is running his grassroots campaign purely through social media.

A bill was reintroduced earlier this month to allow off-sale liquor sales on Sundays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve (after 8 p.m.) and Christmas Day.

According to Fox9, Schmitt plans on bringing a petition with a couple thousand signatures to a state Senate Committee hearing on the matter Monday.

Among the arguments for Sunday liquor sales is keeping business in the state.

A liquor store owner across the border in Hudson, Wis., told Fox9 that 85 percent of his Sunday sales comes from Minnesotans.

A survey by Public Policy Polling released in June revealed that Minnesota voters favored Sunday liquor sales by a 59/27 percent margin. There was a bi-partisan consensus in the survey, as Democrats (61/22), Republicans (46/38), and Independents (68/23) all expressed support for Sunday sales.
