Gunshots reported in Montevideo, police find 1 dead, 1 injured

A man was dead inside a home and a woman injured outside.

A shooting in Montevideo, Minnesota has left one person dead and another injured on Tuesday. 

Montevideo police say a 911 call just before noon Tuesday reported gunshots near 103 South 4th Street. Officers arrived and found a 41-year-old woman lying on the front step with two gunshot wounds. 

Officers entered the home and found a man lying dead on the floor from an apparent gunshot wound. The man was identified as David Schwartz, 55, of Foley, Minnesota. 

The woman, who police say owns the home where the shooting occurred, was conscious and transported to the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital for treatment.

She was then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where her condition is unknown. 

Montevideo Police Chief Adam Christopher told the West Central Tribune that Schwartz appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Anoka County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy on Schwartz. 

The shooting is under investigation.
