Hail and strong wind gusts could be coming for southern Minnesota

More severe weather is headed to Minnesota.

More severe weather is headed towards southern Minnesota this afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 7 p.m. for much of southern Minnesota (see map below), with the National Weather Service saying hail, strong winds and frequent lightning is possible with this storm.

At 12:15 p.m., severe thunderstorms were along a line from Odin to near Trimont to Fairmont, and were moving east at 40 mph. The National Weather Service says 60 mph wind gusts and half-dollar size hail were reported with this storm.

If you live in the watch area, keep an eye on the weather – the watch could quickly change to a severe thunderstorm warning. And when you're in an area that's under a severe thunderstorm warning it's important to go inside and stay away from windows.

More stormy weather this week

After Sunday's storm that knocked out power to thousands in the Twin Cities area, the National Weather Service there warned of stormy weather through Wednesday thanks to a low-pressure system that's moving in from the Rockies.
