A crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck proved fatal in Minnetonka on Wednesday morning.

Minnetonka police say the crash happened around 8:20 a.m. at the intersection of Excelsior Boulevard and Fairview Avenue. It's unclear what caused the crash, but the driver of a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 2012 Ford truck was uninjured and released from the scene.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and the Minnesota State Patrol is reconstructing the crash scene.

Because of that, Excelsior Boulevard is closed in both directions at Fairview Avenue and will likely remain so until around 1 p.m.

The identity of the deceased motorcyclist will be released at a later date by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

There have been 296 fatal crashes so far in 2018, according to the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety. That's 15 more than at the same date last year.
