Harley rider dies in collision with horse in southern Minnesota

It happened east of Prosper in far southeast Minnesota.

A man riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle died Friday after a horse jumped in front of him in southeast Minnesota Friday morning. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 60-year-old man from Decorah, Iowa was killed when he collided with a horse on Hwy. 44 east of Prosper in extreme southeast Minnesota. 

The crash, which happened around 11:30 a.m, was caused when a horse grazing in the ditch broke free of its chain and ran onto the road.

The motorcyclist swerved but couldn't avoid contact. The horse also died in the collision.

The crash occurred on a stretch of highway with rolling hills, the state patrol notes. 

Minnesota and Wisconsin have seen an uptick in motorcycle crashes with animals the last two weeks, including multiple crashes with deer and two reports involving a moose.
