A metro-area fisherman was found dead on Lake Mille Lacs on Friday.
According to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office, a request for a welfare check was called in around 11:06 p.m. Friday after a 59-year-old Hastings woman hadn't heard from her husband, 59-year-old Daniel Gable, who had been fishing on Lake Mille Lacs earlier in the day.
The woman informed authorities that Gable hadn't been in contact with any family and friends, nor did he check out of his hotel.
Gable's truck and boat trailer were located at a public landing on the west side of the lake, leading to a search during the early hours of Saturday. High waves and fog made the search difficult and even with infrared technology from air support they weren't able to find Gable or his boat.
The search resumed after daylight Saturday and Gable was found deceased in his boat, which had washed ashore approximately 1,000 feet south of the boating landing he'd launched from the previous day.
A cause of death has not been announced and Gable's body has been transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
