Hay bales fall from trailer, cause fatal motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash after colliding with hay bales that fell from a trailer ahead of him on a central Minnesota highway. 

The fatal crash happened just before 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on Hwy. 25 south of 273rd St. in Platte Township, Morrison County. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2003 Dodge Ram hauling a trailer loaded with hay bales was southbound on Hwy. 25 when three hay bales fell off the trailer into the lanes of traffic. 

A man riding 2016 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle crashed into one of the bales, causing him to lose control and enter the median ditch. He was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital but later died. 

The motorcyclist has been identified as Myles Steven McGrath, 64, of Pierz. He was wearing a helmet. 

The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 57-year-old Royalton man, was not injured.
