Head-on crash in northern Minnesota leaves 1 dead, 1 critical

The collision happened mid-afternoon on Hwy. 2 near Grand Rapids.

One motorist died and another driver was critically injured in a head-on crash in northern Minnesota Wednesday afternoon. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the collision happened just before 3 p.m. on Hwy. 2 in Blackberry Township, Itasca County. The crash report says a 24-year-old woman was driving a 1999 Chevy Trailblazer eastbound on Hwy. 2 when she crossed into the westbound lanes near Hummingbird Drive and collided with a 2020 Jeep Cherokee. 

The 24-year-old, identified as Brienne R. Brodie, of Duluth, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the crash report. 

The other motorist, a 57-year-old Grand Rapids woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Her current condition is unknown. 

The crash happened about six miles southeast of Grand Rapids.
