HealthPartners and Park Nicollet Health Services are beginning 2013 as one official health system.

According to the Star Tribune, officials from both of the Twin Cities health care providers said Tuesday that they have completed their work to become a single organization -- which will operate under the name HealthPartners.

HealthPartner president and CEO Mary Brainerd said the focus of the combined organizations will be "making people healthier, making health care more affordable, and creating the best possible experiences for patients and members."

The merger was announced at the end of August. Patients should not experience any service disruptions and no clinics will close, the Star Tribune reported.

Under the merger, the new HealthPartners will serve more than 1.4 million medical and dental members, and 1 million patients in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
