WCCO reports that a 68-year-old grandfather escaped with minor injuries Sunday morning in a helicopter accident in Corcoran in Hennepin County. Officers say the helicopter malfunctioned, a chopper blade came off, hit a trailer and caught fire. Crews had to remove the man from the helicopter. They say he suffered burns in the crash.
Police say the man was on his way to visit his grandkids when the accident occurred. His name has not been released.
The Star Tribune reports that the private helicopter was destroyed by fire
The pilot had been flying and encountered mechanical problems while landing, said Maj. Tracey Martin of the Sheriff's Office. The cause remains under investigation.
