Expect more traffic woe this weekend in the Twin Cities, with I-35W closing for the weekend once again between Hwy. 62 and I-694.
The 15-mile stretch closes for the second weekend in a row starting at 9 p.m. Friday, re-opening at 5 a.m. on Monday.
Detours will send drivers via I-694, Hwy. 100 and Hwy. 62, or I-694, I-35E and I-94/I-694.
A three mile stretch of I-35W will stay open between County Road C and I-694 in the north metro, but only for local roads – you can't use it to get to Hwys. 280 or 36.
It will impact anyone traveling north and south through the west metro, or trying to get to downtown Minneapolis
Events that could be affected this weekend include the Minnesota Fringe Festival, the art fairs in Uptown and Powderhorn Park, and Twins games at Target Field Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Also happening this weekend is the closure of Hwy. 280 in northeast Minneapolis, which will be closed in both directions though still open to local traffic between University and Larpenteur.
Work happening during the closure will include the removal of the 40th Street pedestrian bridge in south Minneapolis, and the resurfacing of I-35W southbound from County Road C in Roseville to 4th Street North in downtown Minneapolis.
