Here is Minnesota's COVID-19 update for Sunday, September 13

Sunday's data includes all statistics reported to the MDH through 4 p.m. Saturday.

Thirteen deaths and more than 700 new cases of COVID-19 are included in Sunday's updated situation report from the Minnesota Department of Health.

That brings the COVID-19 death toll in Minnesota to 1,919, of which 1,398 have happened in long-term care facilities. The 13 newly reported deaths include nine patients who were from long-term care facilities.

Sunday's update includes 741 new positive tests for the coronavirus, 18 of which have been removed for an official count of 723 new cases. Those positive cases are the result of 10,783 people tested, creating a 24-hour reporting period test positivity rate of 6.7%.

The positive test rate is lower from the perspective when the number of individuals producing positive tests (723) divided by total completed tests (21,489). In that case, the positivity rate is 3.36%.

The "tests completed" number is always higher than the "people tested" metric because some people get tested multiple times and those who test positive are only counted once, so it produces a less accurate positivity rate.

The test positivity rate over a 7-day average, based on total number of people tested, according to Johns Hopkins University, was 8.29% as of Saturday. Anything over 5% can indicate more aggressive community transmission, MDH officials say.

Coronavirus in Minnesota by the numbers:

  • Total tests: 1,707,514 (up from 1,684,520)
  • People tested: 1,233,305 (up from 1,222,522)
  • Positive cases:  84,311 (up from 83,588)
  • Deaths: 1,919 (up from 1,906)
  • Currently hospitalized: 241 (down from 247)
  • Patients in intensive care: 136 (down from 140)
  • Patients no longer requiring isolation: 77,461 (up from 76,650)

There have also been 52 deaths where COVID-19 is listed by doctors as the "probable" cause, though it's not included in the official COVID-19 death toll.
