Here is Minnesota's COVID-19 update for Tuesday, June 22
Tuesday's COVID-19 update from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) includes 80 new cases and one new death.
The state's death toll is 7,460 since the start of the pandemic. Of the total deaths, 59.1% (4,465) were residents of long-term care.
As of June 20, the state reported that 3,029,299 people have received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine – up only a little more than 1,000 compared to the day before – while 2,830,875 people have completed their vaccine series.
The percentage of Minnesota's population with at least one shot, based on age group:
- 12-15: 35%
- 16-17: 48%
- 18-49: 56%
- 50-64: 71%
- 65+: 90%
- Total population: 54%

Hospitalizations
Through June 21, the number of people with COVID-19 hospitalized in Minnesota was 114 – down from 139 on June 18. Of those hospitalized, 32 people were in intensive care (down from 44) and 82 were receiving non-ICU treatment (down from 95).
Hospital admissions involving COVID patients in Minnesota dropped to 223 on March 7 before rising to 699 on April 14. Since that mid-April peak the numbers have dropped precipitously, falling to 440 May 17 and now under 150.
Testing and positivity rates
The 80 positive results in Monday's update were from 5,509 completed tests, creating a test positivity rate of 1.45%.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota's test positivity rate over the past seven days is 1.08%.
The World Health Organization recommends that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.

- People with at least 1 vaccine shot: 3,029,299 (up from 3,028,086)

- Positive cases: 604,687 (up from 604,608)
- Deaths: 7,460 – 418 of which are "probable*" (up from 7,459)
- Patients no longer requiring isolation: 596,205 (up from 596,077)
* Probable deaths are patients who died after testing positive using the COVID-19 antigen test, which is thought to be less accurate than the more common PCR test.
