Here is Minnesota's COVID-19 update for Tuesday, June 22

The latest figures from MDH.

Tuesday's COVID-19 update from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) includes 80 new cases and one new death.

The state's death toll is 7,460 since the start of the pandemic. Of the total deaths, 59.1% (4,465) were residents of long-term care.

As of June 20, the state reported that 3,029,299 people have received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine – up only a little more than 1,000 compared to the day before – while 2,830,875 people have completed their vaccine series.

The percentage of Minnesota's population with at least one shot, based on age group:

  • 12-15: 35%
  • 16-17: 48%
  • 18-49: 56%
  • 50-64: 71%
  • 65+: 90%
  • Total population: 54%

51% of Minnesota's total population has completed the vaccine series. MDH has a public dashboard to track vaccine progress in Minnesota, and you can view it here.

Through June 21, the number of people with COVID-19 hospitalized in Minnesota was 114 – down from 139 on June 18. Of those hospitalized, 32 people were in intensive care (down from 44) and 82 were receiving non-ICU treatment (down from 95).

Hospital admissions involving COVID patients in Minnesota dropped to 223 on March 7 before rising to 699 on April 14. Since that mid-April peak the numbers have dropped precipitously, falling to 440 May 17 and now under 150.

Testing and positivity rates

The 80 positive results in Monday's update were from 5,509 completed tests, creating a test positivity rate of 1.45%.

According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota's test positivity rate over the past seven days is 1.08%.

The World Health Organization recommends that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.
