Here is Minnesota's COVID-19 update for Tuesday, May 11
Tuesday's COVID-19 update from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) includes 583 new cases and nine new deaths.
The state's death toll is 7,240 since the start of the pandemic. Of the total deaths, 61% (4,378) were residents of long-term care.
Through May 9, the state reported that 2,667,770 people have received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 2,176,534 people have completed their vaccine series.
Sixty (60) percent of Minnesotans aged 16-plus have received at least one shot, while 88% of the age-65-plus population has had at least one dose of a vaccine. Overall, 48% of the state's population has had at least one dose.

Hospitalizations
Hospital data for Tuesday was not yet available at the time this story was published.
Through May 9, the number of people with COVID-19 hospitalized in Minnesota was TBD, which is TBD from the 481 reported Monday and continues a downward trend since mid-April.
Of those hospitalized, TBD people were in intensive care (TBD from 133 reported Monday) and 348 were receiving non-ICU treatment (TBD from 348).

Testing and positivity rates
The 583 positive results in Tuesday's update were from 11,514 completed tests, creating a test positivity rate of 5.06%.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota's test positivity rate over the past seven days is 5.27%.
The World Health Organization recommends that a percent positive rate (total positives divided by total completed tests) of below 5% for at least two weeks is necessary to safely reopen the economy. That 5% threshold is based on total positives divided by total tests.
