We now know which Mattress Firm locations will be included in the nationwide closure the company announced when it declared bankruptcy last month.
Mattress Firm has released a detailed list of all the affected stores, and it shows that eight of Minnesota's 30-plus stores will be closing their doors.
Most of the closures are around the Twin Cities, but there's a couple outstate as well.
The eight locations are:
- Blaine, 751 Old Highway 10 NE
- St. Cloud, 4051 Division St.
- Eden Prairie, 8270 Flying Cloud Drive
- Maple Grove, 12067 Elm Creek Blvd North
- Minneapolis, 2224 Hennepin
- Roseville, 2174 Snelling Ave N
Willmar, 2556 1st Street South
Woodbury, 9220 Hudson Road
When it announced the closures, Mattress Firm said they would be happening "where we have too many locations in close proximity to each other."
The company also assures that anyone who has ordered a mattress has will still get their delivery.
CEO Steve Stagner says they plan to "emerge from bankruptcy in November, in time for the holiday buying season," the Business Journal reports.
Mattress Firm is America's largest mattress retailer, but it had had a number of woes leading up to October's bankruptcy filing.
According to Forbes, those included the loss of the Tempur-Pedic brand in its stores, competition from direct-to-consumer mattress sellers such as Casper and Tuft & Needle, and the discovery of “accounting irregularities” within its parent company.
Of the closures, Forbes says "don’t be surprised if that 700 number gets bigger somewhere along the line."
The magazine notes that Mattress Firm still has some 2,800 retail locations remaining.
