Here's what Up-Down Arcade Bar's rooftop space will look like

The Lyn-Lake bar has a major upgrade coming this summer.

Up-Down Arcade Bar has just unveiled how things will look when their new rooftop patio space is complete.

As the Lyn-Lake neighborhood's retro video game and craft beer hangout celebrates its first year in business, there's a lot more to come.

The rooftop patio will open sometime in late July or early August, marketing manager David Hayden told GoMN.

The rooftop gives the Lyn-Lake destination some added space and will be an indoor-outdoor setup allowing it to be open rain or shine. The new space will feature a lot of same games already located on their existing front and back patios, including life-size Jenga, giant Connect Four as well as the addition of bubble hockey.

Up-Down's top player tournament

In addition to the rooftop, Up-Down will spend their birthday weekend in June crowning a champion with the first ever King of Cade (like, arcade) tournament at Up-Down Arcade Bar.

King of Cade – a popular annual tournament at Up-Down's Des Moines and Kansas City locations – will take place on Sunday, June 25. Players go through a gauntlet that includes arcade games, skee ball, pinball and Nintendo 64. The prizes for the tournament include a 60-in-1 bar-top multicade machine as well as a Nintendo Switch.

Up-Down also will celebrate their birthday on Saturday, June 24 with a special skee ball challenge. Anyone who rolls over a game over 300 points gets rewarded with a free beer.

Charity work

Up-Down is starting a monthly fundraiser called ‘Coins for a Cause.’ The arcade will pick a local charity each month and pick a day to highlight them by donating all their token sales on a given day. Recently the Kansas City location helped a local school get a music program off the ground by highlighting them on ‘Coins for a Cause.’
