Rob Farnsworth, a 35-year-old special-education teacher from Hibbing, announced Wednesday that he will seek office to be Minnesota’s next governor.

He said he intends to seek the GOP endorsement, according to the Duluth News Tribune.

Farnsworth ran for the 8th District congressional seat in 2010. He dropped out of the race after Chip Cravaack got the republican endorsement, but now Farnsworth said he can help broaden the republican base in Minnesota, reports WDIO.

Farnsworth, the son of a miner, has been a union member for 15 years and previously served as a union local president while working as an educator for the Department of Corrections, says the Duluth paper.

Farnsworth earned an undergraduate degree in history from the University of St. Thomas and a master’s degree in special education from Minnesota State University, Mankato, says the New Tribune.

He joins Scott Honour, Jeff Johnson, Dave Thompson and Kurt Zellers in chasing the GOP endorsement to challenge Gov. Mark Dayton in 2014.

A crucial State Fair appearance is apparently in conflict with Honour's schedule at the moment, MinnPost reports.
