Highway 100 is going to be a nightmare the next few days

If you use Highway 100 to get to and from work, you might want to plan an alternative for the rest of the week.

Starting tonight (Wednesday) at 10 p.m., the southbound road will be reduced to a single lane between W. 44th St. and W. 50th St. in Edina, MnDOT announced, warning drivers to be "prepared for slow-moving traffic."

The entire highway will be closed between I-394 and Highway 62 this weekend, re-opening at 5 a.m. Monday.

Parts of southbound 100 between I-394 and Highway 62 have already been reduced to two lanes, and several ramps closed as part of the ongoing road construction project.

Disruption on the highway will continue till November.

I-35W likely to be affected

KSTP suggests for the rest of the week, Highway 100 users consider traveling via I-35W or side roads instead.

That could in turn put even more pressure on I-35W, which along with I-94 is already the most congested freeway in the Twin Cities metro area, according to MnDOT data.

WCCO reported last year that an estimated 180,000 people a day use the I-35W and I-94 interchange south of downtown Minneapolis.
