Hockey gear maker Bauer to open its first stores – and one is in Minnesota

A leading hockey equipment maker is opening its first ever stores later this year – and Minnesota will have one of them.

New Hampshire-based Bauer Hockey revealed it will be launching a line of retail stores across the country, and one of two confirmed stores will be in the Twin Cities, according to the Business Journal.

The first store is planned to open in Boston this summer, with the one in the Metro area to follow in the fall. The Business Journal has suggested Richfield could be the location Bauer has in mind.

Bauer is describing the stores as "Own the Moment retail experiences," Marketwired reports, and not only will they involve plenty of floorspace for Bauer products, they will also come with an indoor ice rink giving customers the chance to "try before you buy."

"Built to inform and inspire hockey players, each Bauer retail experience will have expertly trained associates to guide each consumer through a 'fit, learn and experience' process," Rich Wuerthele, of Bauer's parent company Performance Sports Group, said in a press release.

Bauer is considered to be the leading manufacturer of hockey equipment and plays a major role in Minnesota hockey, such as being the official equipment provider for the University of Minnesota's Gophers hockey program.

Forbes says the company has gone from strength to strength since it was bought by a partnership of investors in 2008 after 13 years of ownership by Nike, at the end of which it was losing money.
