Hoops Brewing – from award-winning brewer Dave Hoops – is now open

Driving to Duluth now. ????

Hoops Brewing is finally open.

The highly anticipated brewery from award-winning brewer Dave Hoops opened its doors in Duluth's Canal Park Tuesday at 11 a.m., according to Facebook, and it will operate daily from 11 a.m. to midnight.

Hoops and head brewer Melissa Rainville, who worked with Hoops at Fitger’s Brewhouse, plan to have 15-30 beers on tap at a time, ranging from easy drinking beers to "brews with intense character," the brewery's website says.

Here's the beer list for day one:

You'll be able to get Hoops Brewing beers in the taproom and to-go crowlers (those 32-ounce cans of beer). The brewery also plans to have very limited distribution to select retailers in Duluth and the Twin Cities.

It's Duluth's first beer hall

Hoops Brewing is the ninth brewery to open in the Twin Ports, according to The Growler. But it's the first beer hall in the area – and the second-largest beer hall in the state, behind Surly Brewing in Minneapolis, the magazine says.

The taproom can seat 250 people, and is located (along with the brewhouse) in a historic 1880s brick-and-exposed-timber warehouse at 325 Lake Ave. S.

Unlike Surly and many other beer halls across the country, it won't serve food. But people can bring their own grub from nearby restaurants.

People are pumped

Since Hoops announced plans for Hoops Brewing last fall, people have been anxiously awaiting its opening, which was planned for the spring.

And now that it's finally open, people can't wait to try it.
