Hopkins PD saves America: Officers rescue injured bald eagle found by road

Hopkins police officers scrambled to save a particularly majestic citizen Wednesday morning – a stricken bald eagle.

Officers were called to Highway 7 around 7:30 a.m. after the eagle had been struck by a vehicle, and was left injured on the road.

A police spokesman told BringMeTheNews that some eagle-eyed (sorry) motorists spotted the bird and moved it to the side of the roadway.

As you can see from the pictures, which were posted on the Hopkins PD Facebook page, the eagle was in quite a mood, with one of the motorists getting a minor peck wound from its beak in the process of moving it.

Once police arrived, they were able to contain the eagle in a kennel crate – complete with what appears to be a Spongebob SquarePants blanket – and took it to the local station, where the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources was called.

The bird will be treated for its injuries – which include a possible broken wing – at the University of Minnesota's Raptor Center.
