Hospital honors responders who saved St. Paul boy after train accident

The staff at a St. Paul hospital honored the work of emergency responders who helped save the life of a nine-year-old boy after he was run over by a train this summer.

KSTP reports Region's Hosptal paid tribute to the crew that treated Marshawn Farr-Robinson after he fell from a moving freight train which then ran over his legs, severing both feet.

Officer Marshall Titus tells the station he keeps a tourniquet strapped to his leg while on duty and used it to stem the blood loss from Marshawn's legs. The report says doctors credited the fast action for helping to save him.

WCCO reports Thursday's ceremony was the first time Marshawn, now 10, had a chance to speak with the crew that helped him. He's currently using a wheelchair but the station says doctors expect he will eventually walk again with the use of prosthetics.

The accident occurred in August near Farrington Street and Ivy Avenue in St. Paul.

A subsequent report by MPR and KARE-11 found the area has no fence, even though Minnesota law requires one. An attorney for the Farr-Robinson family tells WCCO he's looking into legal action against Canadian Pacific Railway and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.
