After a long stretch of relatively cool summer weather, a heat wave is moving into Minnesota just in time for the Minnesota State Fair.

Temperatures will be in the 80s in much of the state on Monday, with 90s in southern parts of the state, forecasters say.

The next few days will be even hotter – 92 degrees on Tuesday and 91 Wednesday in the Twin Cities, with heat indexes in the upper 90s, the National Weather Service says.

Most of the state will see high temperatures in the 90s on Tuesday, WCCO reports.

Muggy air will arrive in the metro Monday afternoon, and dew points will climb into the 60s, KARE 11 reports.

This summer has been a lot more comfortable than last – last year there were 31 days of 90-degree weather in the Twin Cities; this year it has only been that hot just nine times (so far), WCCO reports. Those figures compare to an average of 11 days of temperatures at 90 degrees or above, WCCO says.

Hot and humid weather will stick around through the end of the week, forecasters say. Weekend highs are likely to hover around 90 in the metro.

For the Minnesota State Fair opener on Thursday, expect a high in the mid-80s with mostly sunny skies.
