House in west-central Minnesota explodes, man inside airlifted to hospital

A man inside a home that exploded in west-central Minnesota on Monday was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. 

Brian Orsten, 51, was injured when his home, on the 1300 block of Hwy. 9 Northeast in Benson, exploded just before 4 p.m. on Monday, according to the Swift County Sheriff's Office. 

Orsten was taken to a hospital in Benson and later airlifted to the Minneapolis hospital, where according to Lakeland Broadcasting News Director John Cola, he is in stable condition after suffering burns.

Cola also reports that Orsten had just returned home Sunday after spending two weeks in Ukraine as he and his wife prepare to adopt three children.

The Swift County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the explosion.
