Lakeville Police officials have identified the person whose remains were found in Ritter Farm Park Thursday as 50-year-old Christopher Marc Bellino.

Police say Bellino, who has been missing August of 2012, was last seen making a purchase at a Marshall’s store in northeast Lakeville.

Lakeville Police told KARE 11 they have not yet identified the official cause of death. Authorities say there were no obvious signs of foul play on the scene.

The bones were found by a group of Lakeville High School students, who were in the park conducting an orienteering exercise. One of the students found what looked to be a human skull just after 2 p.m., and a group leader called police. Searchers then located a number of other apparently human bones, KARE 11 reports.

Police believe the bones have been in the park for some time, and there was no threat to park visitors or residents in the area, police said. FOX 9 reported that a police source had told the station it was a skull and bones.

Agents with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting Lakeville police and the Hennepin County Medical Examiners Office in the investigation.

Lakeville police posted a message to Facebook saying they expected to be at the scene for 24 hours.

Officials say more information will be released when it becomes available.
