Hunt for attempted murder suspect who cut man's throat, threw him off bridge
Police in Dodge County are hunting an "armed and dangerous" suspect who allegedly cut a man's throat and threw him off a bridge last week.
The incident at the Milliken Creek Bridge on Wednesday sparked the closure of roads nearby with police at the time describing it as a "very active situation" but that there was "no threat to the public."
No further details were given till Monday morning, with the sheriff's office saying it was sparked by a 911 call from a witness who saw a man being thrown from the bridge into the water.
It then issued an appeal to find 27-year-old Rigo Eleazar Lopez Macias (aka Alejandro Torres Lopez), who is otherwise known as "Alex."
According to police, officers arrived in a heavily wooded area near the north side of the Milliken Creek Bridge Wednesday afternoon to find a 62-year-old man from Rochester bleeding heavily from a cut across the front of his neck. The victim told police he'd been thrown from the bridge.
He was unable to give anymore details due to the severity of his injury, and during the next few days police tried to get more information out of him.
It was only when the victim was out of surgery and was extubated that he was able to identify Macias, and said he works at Rochester Cheese under the alias Alejandro Torres Lopez. The incident is believed to have stemmed from a drug-related dispute.
Macias is described as a "light-skinned Hispanic male," 6' tall and weighing 200 pounds.
He fled the scene in a 2013 Gray Ford Taurus Sedan with MN License ECH680.
"Macias is wanted for 1st Degree Attempted Murder and should be considered armed and dangerous," the sheriff's office said.
The victim has since been released from St. Mary's Hospital to an undisclosed location.
Police say the booking photo on the left side of the picture at the top of this page is about 5 years old, and more recent photos of Macias show him with a receding hairline.
