UPDATE 6:35 P.M.

Ard has been taken into custody in Otter Tail County. No further information has been released.

Original story

Moorhead Police Department is trying to locate a man who fled a traffic pursuit and may have swam across a river.

Early Wednesday morning, an officer in Moorhead saw a vehicle traveling down the wrong lane around 20 Street and 8th Avenue South. The driver then traveled across a private lawn. The officer attempted to stop the driver, but halted the pursuit for safety reasons.

Officers in Fargo later found the vehicle of the suspect running unattended. A police K-9 tracking the suspect brought investigators to the Red River.

The suspect is believed to have crossed the river because the K-9 continued tracking eastbound in Moorhead.

The suspect and vehicle owner is Jeremiah Ard, 36, of Dent, Minnesota. The vehicle is a blue 2007 GMC Yukon, which has been impounded.

Moorhead police are seeking assistance in tracking Ard in order to ensure his safety. He is not considered a threat to public safety.
