Authorities in west-central Minnesota are on the hunt for a driver who fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run Monday night.

According to the Becker County Sheriff's Office, the crash involved a Polaris Ranger side-by-side utility vehicle and a 1999 Mercury Marquis.

It happened around 7 p.m. on County Road 158 at Wilkinson Lane in Maple Grove Township, which is about 20 miles north of Detroit Lakes.

The 27-year-old man driving the UTV was airlifted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo where he died Tuesday, according to sheriff's officials.

The driver of the Mercury "fled" the scene, the sheriff's office says, and a search for that person is ongoing.

The identity of the man killed in the crash will be released at a later stage.
